Al Faisaliyah Center is a pyramid-shaped commercial skyscraper and mixed-use complex in the Al Olaya district of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It holds a unique place in the country’s history. The 267-meter-high office tower was the first skyscraper built in Saudi Arabia.
The complex was commissioned by Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal, with construction beginning in 1997. It was completed and opened to the public in May 2000. Since then, it has remained one of Riyadh’s most recognized urban landmarks.

Architecture & Design
Foster + Partners designed the 240,000-square-meter Al Faisaliyah Complex. The office tower is square in plan, built around a compact central core that tapers to a point, with four main corner columns defining its unique silhouette.
The building is clad in anodized aluminum panels with large cantilevered sun-shading devices that minimize glare and allow the use of non-reflective, energy-efficient glass. This design reflects careful attention to the Middle Eastern climate.
Moreover, the building features a famous artistic centerpiece. The lobby holds a monumental stained glass wall designed by architectural artist Brian Clarke in collaboration with Norman Foster. A five-story-high glass art installation is considered a landmark development in the history of stained glass.
At the very top sits the structure’s most iconic element. The glass globe near the apex is 24 meters in diameter and is made of 655 glass panels.

Office Tower: The skyscraper comprises 30 floors of office space. The Al Olaya location gives businesses a competitive edge due to its positioning within Riyadh’s Grade A office market.
Observation Deck: At 200 meters above ground level, an observation deck offers a panoramic view of Riyadh. Many visitors find the entry fee for the observation deck well worth the experience. The best time to visit is during sunset.
