About this place — in detail
Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib Medical Group, known as HMG, is the largest provider of comprehensive healthcare services in the Middle East. The group is headquartered in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and operates across the Kingdom, the UAE, and Bahrain. HMG was established in Saudi Arabia in 1993 by Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib. Over three decades, it has grown from a single medical center in Riyadh into a fully integrated healthcare network. Clearly, this is not just a hospital group. HMG covers hospitals, pharmacies, diagnostic labs, home healthcare, and healthcare technology, all under one roof. Locations and Facilities At HMG Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib Medical Group currently operates 20 medical facilities across Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Bahrain and is developing the first private medical city in Saudi Arabia. Key hospital locations include: Riyadh: Multiple hospitals including Arryan Hospital, Takhassusi Hospital, Al Suwaidi Hospital, Al Sahafa Hospital, and Al Ghadeer Habeeb Hospital Al Khobar: One of the group's largest hospitals, with wide specialty coverage Al Qassim (Buraydah): The first HMG facility to achieve JCI accreditation Jeddah: Al-Fayhaa Hospital, opened in 2024 Dubai, UAE: Hospital in Dubai Healthcare City Bahrain: Medical center serving regional patients HMG's new projects will increase its bed capacity from 1,913 beds to 3,609 beds by 2028. Moreover, the group holds approximately an 11% market share among private healthcare operators in Saudi Arabia, making it the sector's dominant player. Medical Services and Specialties HMG hospitals and clinics cover a broad range of medical specialties. Services include: Cardiology and cardiac surgery Orthopedics and spine surgery Neurology and neurosurgery Obstetrics and gynecology Pediatrics Oncology Bariatric and metabolic surgery Gastroenterology Urology Dermatology Ophthalmology Physiotherapy and rehabilitation Psychiatry and psychology Ear, nose, and throat (ENT) Family medicine and internal medicine Emergency medicine Takhassusi Hospital is recognized as the Kingdom's largest cardiac surgery center. Furthermore, HMG also provides home healthcare, intensive care unit management, patient transport, and facility maintenance services. Pharmacy Division HMG's pharmacy division includes Al Habib Pharmacies, Middle East Pharmacies Company, and Afia Pharmacies Company. Through expansion and digital investment in 2023, HMG Pharmacies became a leading contributor to the group's operational and financial success, reaching a record number of customers through new branches and milestone technology. In addition, pharmacies operate as part of the group's integrated care model. Patients can move from consultation to prescription to pharmacy within the same network. Healthcare Technology: The VIDA System One of HMG's most distinct strengths is its in-house healthcare technology. HMG is a pioneer in healthcare technology, having built and applied the award-winning hospital information system called VIDA in Saudi Arabia and the GCC. VIDA had been implemented in 57 healthcare facilities in Saudi Arabia by the end of 2023, including 45 Ministry of Health facilities. It maintains electronic records of patients and helps in managing medical procedures. VIDA includes 11 specialized applications, such as tele-ICU and tele-radiology. Notably, this system positions HMG as a technology partner for the Saudi government — not just a private operator. Subsidiaries and Business Units HMG operates several specialized subsidiaries beyond its hospitals and pharmacies: Cloud Solutions: An IT service provider with more than 15 years of experience in Saudi Arabia, serving the public and private sectors. Flow Medical Solutions: A specialized company focused on providing integrated healthcare technologies. Taswyat Management Company: Offers comprehensive healthcare Revenue Cycle Management services covering consultancy, operational support, and IT solutions. MD Lab: Provides accurate and cost-effective laboratory testing services for public and private healthcare facilities. Additionally, HMG is creating new business segments that include remote services, public-private partnerships such as ICU operations for government facilities, and technology partnerships. Accreditations and Awards HMG holds a strong record of international and national recognition. The group has received 38 international and national awards and accreditations, including JCI, ISO, MEED, Forbes, CPQ, Arab Health Awards, the Middle East HR Excellence Award, and Middle East Insights' Quality Service Awards. Most importantly, HMG Hospital in Al Qassim was the first healthcare facility in Saudi Arabia to obtain Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation. HMG hospitals also hold ISO and CAP accreditations, reflecting the group's commitment to delivering top-level clinical standards. Financial Standing and Stock Listing In March 2020, the group listed 15 percent of its ordinary shares on the Saudi Exchange in an offer that was heavily oversubscribed and attracted local and international investors. HMG achieved strong financial results for the year ended 31 December 2023, with net income reaching SAR 2,046.01 million. Evidently, the group's financial performance reflects both its scale and the strength of demand for private healthcare in the Kingdom. Vision, Mission, and Alignment with Saudi Vision 2030 HMG's mission is to develop and operate state-of-the-art medical facilities and provide innovative healthcare services, starting from the early stages of planning and designing through to final implementation, operation, and obtaining required accreditations. The group's growth also aligns directly with Saudi Vision 2030. Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 agenda is driving health insurance coverage growth and private sector participation, with the government targeting 35 percent private sector share by 2025. HMG is well positioned to lead that shift
