King Faisal University (KFU) was established in 1975. Its founding marked a turning point in the educational journey of the Eastern Region of Saudi Arabia.

King Faisal founded the university by Royal Decree No. H/67 in 1395 Hijri. It is named after him as King Faisal bin Abdulaziz, the ruler of Saudi Arabia from 1964 until 1975.

Clearly, KFU did not stop at its humble beginnings. It has grown into one of the most respected academic institutions in the Kingdom.

Strategically located in Al-Ahsa, one of the world’s largest oases and a designated UNESCO World Heritage site, KFU operates within a uniquely rich ecosystem that combines cultural heritage, environmental diversity, and modern infrastructure.

Academic Programs and Colleges

KFU offers a total of 86 academic programs. 59 of these programs are undergraduate and 27 are graduate programs. Graduates earn degrees ranging from higher diploma to master’s degree.

Men and women are taught separately, as is custom in Saudi Arabia, where females and males have an equal chance in all 15 university colleges, including education, science, arts, and healthcare.

Postgraduate and Research Programs

Beyond undergraduate study, KFU offers a strong postgraduate experience. Postgraduate programs include Crops and Range, Agricultural Economics, Soils and Waters, Plant Protection, Food Science and Technology, Animal Sciences, Home Economics, Veterinary Anatomy, Arabic Language, Educational Administration, MBA, Mathematics, Physics, and Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

Notably, the Global MBA Program is taught in English and requires 42 credit hours. It spans 4 semesters and follows a cohort structure. Before starting, students attend a residency period and a three-week Pre-MBA program.

Student Enrollment

KFU serves a large and diverse student body. KFU hosts a student population of 21,870 in its undergraduate on-campus programs. Of these, 7,011 (32%) are male and 14,859 (68%) are female. In addition, 42,000 students are enrolled in distance and e-learning education programs.
