Founded by the Riyadh Philanthropic Society for Sciences, the institution initially started as Prince Sultan Private College before attaining university status in 2003. This milestone marked a major leap in Saudi Arabia's private higher education landscape.

Accreditations and Quality Standards

National Accreditation:
PSU earned full 7-year institutional accreditation from the National Center for Academic Accreditation and Evaluation (NCAAA) since 2010, alongside well-established public universities KSU and KFUPM.
PSU was the first private university to receive full institutional accreditation from NCAAA.
International Accreditations:
PSU gained international accreditation from the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) and the Computing Accreditation Commission (CAC) for its Computer Science and Information Systems programs.
The College of Business Administration obtained business accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). AACSB also granted accreditation to PSU's Accounting Program, making PSU the 2nd private higher education institution outside the United States to receive this accreditation.
PSU also works toward accreditation from the High Council for the Evaluation of Research and Higher Education (HCERES) and the Aviation Accreditation Board International (AABI).
Clearly, these accreditations place PSU among the most credible private universities in the Middle East.
Research and Innovation

The Research and Initiatives Center (RIC) at PSU plays a key role in strengthening the university's research and innovation efforts. In line with PSU's Strategic Plan 2024-2030 and Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, RIC focuses on promoting interdisciplinary research, increasing external funding, building industry partnerships, and supporting the commercialization of research.
Furthermore, RIC oversees more than 20 research labs and groups across the university's six colleges, encouraging collaboration on projects that address national priorities and global challenges.
Most importantly, 43 PSU university members were featured in Stanford University's World's Top 2% Scientists List in 2024. This achievement reflects the caliber of PSU's academic staff.
In addition, PSU recently celebrated its first publication in a Nature-series journal within the humanities and behavioral sciences, published in Nature Human Behaviour. This is a landmark achievement for any university in the region.
